MDesign Performance Sr. Did not notice anything until I parked the car, heard a slight creak the remaining of the fluid leaking out of the strutand then as I started the car I noticed there was no power steering and it displayed "Power Steering Assist Fault" in the driver info center.
Q: What does the “Power steering assist fault” warning in the message center of a Ford Fusion mean?
Maybe try disconnecting the battery a few minutes? It's probably much like if the ACC system, if it faults there is nothing you can to rest it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
It's funny because they told me that was the issue before I even brought in the car. I asked if they tried resetting it which they claim they did, said it brought back power steering for 10 min then the code came back on after driving.
Anyone have any tips or advice? I just don't get how it would be working one second, stop, then come back after a reset temporarily. Seems like it is a electrical issue, loose connector or blown fuse. The only other thing I can think of is that the car needs an alignment which the dealership did not complete.
Could the steering wheel being off sensor trip the fault code which would disable the EPAS? Maybe ask another dealer? Another thought is to find out what the system actually senses So, you knew about a condition when you bought the vehicle? And that doesn't give you any leverage in cost, when having it fixed?
Do you know exactly what the trouble code was? That might help us conjure up some advice One risk you've got is that you bought it knowing the fault and don't have it in writing that they'll fix it I might even consider representation just to find out the pros and cons of pressing that point.
Quote from: Spartn27 on February 11,PM. Sorry pics are not great, camera sucks on my tablet. Thank you all for the help and tips! Funny that it is on the right side, I hit a major pothole on the passenger side just minutes before I parked and shut off the car to pump gas and thats when the light came on.
Only thing that baffles me is that it didn't cut off right away only after I shut the car off. I will definitely check out that area and all connectors, will report back with my findings. Only way to fix this is to replace the steering gear, so we'll see what happens. Will update. Only issue now is I do have one of my TPMS sensor that needs to get reprogrammed, fault is in the display I thought they would take care of it and the traction control light is still on for some reason.

Manifold - Vacuum SuThe highest-rated tires, latest engine upgrades and high-performance auto accessories mean nothing without proper, safe steering. Lest you doubt power steering problems are not a significant issue, just look at some of the major recalls from the biggest automakers. Last year, for instance, Ford Motor Company recalled nearly a half-million cars due to a power steering glitch. An independent investigation by Ford concluded that 4 confirmed cases of power steering loss occurred.
Think about that — not even a handful of automobiles experienced power steering loss, but that was enough to sendcars and SUVs back to dealerships all over the country. Loss of power steering whether electrical or hydraulic is regarded as a critical safety issue by billion-dollar companies with millions of cars on the road, and so should you, too! Issue: Rigid, Unresponsive Electric Steering. Examine your fuse box, look for obvious faults with your wires and connections, and check the voltage in your battery.
This helps reset the electrical components, and your electric steering might come back. Have your electrical steering parts and components examined by a mechanic as soon as possible.
But keep in mind, checking the fluid level is just the first step. Cracks in the hydraulic lines, defective components, perhaps a recent accident — these are all possible causes of low power steering fluid. What to do : give your power steering pump pulley a thorough inspection, or have a professional mechanic take a look. Ensure the car is shut off before doing any work on the power steering belt. If you notice a slick, dark brown fluid under your car and it smells like burning oil, it might not be oil.
Power steering fluid has a very unique odor, described by many auto experts as a combination between fresh oil and singed, overused oil. What to do : go to the root of the problem.FATAL ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST ISSUE
Power steering fluid leaks are usually caused by a cracked or worn-out hose that feeds the power steering pump. Also give the hose clamps and other connections a careful inspection.
If the hoses and clamps check out OK, move on to the power steering pump. The entire power steering rack should also receive your attention. The pump itself just might be the cause of the leaking fluid. The car would start but the power steering would not work. Before having our car towed, I did an Internet search and found that many vehicles have experienced a Power Steering Assist Fault and there was not an obvious simple fix without getting the vehicle serviced.
When talking to our Ford Service representative, Linda, I kept asking about there being a design flaw and a recall, since it seemed like this type of problem should not occur and a repair could be very expensive. Our previous car was a Honda, which never caused us a problem; however, when we were in the market for a new car inthe Honda dealership did not really seem to be interested in selling us a car and they did not have many cars in their inventory.
An on-line review of the Ford Fusion was good; hence, we chose this type of car for our purchase. My wife and I had some friends over at our house for dinner on Sunday before Memorial Day. We told them about our Ford Fusion problem. Our friend, a Honda car owner and fan, told us that she knew we made a mistake at the time when buying a Ford Fusion instead of another Honda.
I think that she had an I-told-you-so look on her face. We did not comment. Linda called to tell me that the Warranty portion of the business was closed for the day and she would call back on Tuesday. On Tuesday we got a call from Linda saying that we did not have any extended warranty, which was no surprise to me.
I was not very happy and stated that there must be a design problem since this issue is not obviously unique to our car because of what was documented on the Internet. I expressed my dissatisfaction and told her that I would convey my unhappiness on the Internet, which could influence others in their car-buying-decision.
Linda was nervous; she said several times that any negative comments that we give on any future survey reflects on her performance, not Ford. Linda asked if she should have the part ordered and proceed with the repair. Linda texted me on Wednesday, May 27, to state that our car was ready.
My wife and I went to pick up the car. Linda again stated that anything less than a very positive response about our experience with Ford servicing would reflect on her. She also stated that if there was a recall we would get our money back.
When we went to pay for the servicing, they could not find our paperwork. Linda needed to come into the check-out office. The checking-out office had to re-print our invoice because they could not find it. My thought was that it looks like there is an opportunity for improvement for this process, but I did not say anything. Ironically when driving home I heard on the radio that Ford was conducting a recall of many vehicles because of a power steering problem.
I was very happy in that it seemed like we could be getting our money back. At PM I received the following text message from If not, please let us know. To date, I have not respond to the text since Linda might be getting any negative comments. Please note that the above missing spaces were in the actual text message.
