Hi I am trying to setup a static ip address for the new switch. To ensure that the client PC is redirected to the local web service in the following step, you must disable all other network services ex: wi-fi on your client machine. You don't mention what model switch it is; but did you plug into the management port of the switch? Are you trying to set the management IP for the switch? If so, you could just plug the switching into an existing working network, let it get a DHCP address, and then change it via the dashboard.

If you connect the switch to your network and allow it to pull a DHCP address, then the dashboard will show you the switch IP address on the device status page. Currently the new switch is first Meraki at this location, all our network are non Meraki network at this location. Is it possible to see dashboard? I guess it is possible if it is connected to internet, right? If the new switch is plugged into Cisco switch, do you think the cisco switch port require special configuration?
It will connect automatically, grabbing an IP via dhcp. No need for special configs on your existing switch port.
PS- I would used Internet port 2 initially to connect it to your network, so that you can then configure a static IP on Internet Port 1. I was referring to the existing switch that you would be connecting the MX to. Merakian's reply above clarifies what will happen when utilizing Internet 2 as opposed to Internet 1 on the MX.
Good question CMR. It is a fact that the MX is a firewall. Once there it will connect to your Meraki dashboard I do havepresume you a network set up and a code to claim that gives you the years of licence for the MX You'll need to create a network of type appliance and allocate it.
It sounds complex but actually it takes less than 5 mins from nothing to connected and ready to configure rules etc. If it has connected to the internet and downloaded it's config and the option to allow local status page is indeed disabled, disconnect the internet port, factory reset it using the pin hole and do the above again.

So enjoy the Meraki MSP unboxing and initial setup review below. The switch was packaged well with a minimalist approach to the packaging. However, if my opinion less is more without a ton of things to have to unpack and sort through. The unit is very sturdy with a metal case and feels like it is well built and durable.
I have to say that I like the physical design of the switch. The only other hardware you get is the power cable in a plastic bag along with a booklet that basically covers the highlights of the Meraki cloud architecture and switch capabilities. The first thing that you need to do is head over to dashboard. The form will send out a confirmation email with a link that you will need to click to verify the account creation. After the first housekeeping details and your account is created and ready to go, you are ready to add a device to your network.
Click on your organization link and inventory which will allow you to claim the serial number of your device. The serial number on the MSP can be found on the back of the unit. After you add the serial number of your device, you will be asked to create a network, including a name, network type, and select a device to include in that network.
Once the switch has checked into dashboard, the LED will turn green. Note: A solid orange light indicates that the device has not checked in with Dashboard yet. After waiting for a couple of minutes after booting the switch, the orange LED was still solid. I suspected there must be some connectivity issue between the switch and the Meraki cloud.
Take a look at that KB. After getting the firewall rules in place on my end, the switch then checked into the dashboard. As a test of how quick the synchronization occurs between the cloud and the local switch, I set the password in the dashboard and had the login box up in a browser. The login failed once, and then I immediately tried again with the password I had just set in the dashboard and it logged in.
The synchronization happens very quickly. Below is a screen grab of what the local device configuration page looks like after connecting. My initial impressions of the Meraki MSP are very positive. This looks to be a great little unit that has a wide range of features, bells, and whistles.

I have no experience with Meraki so I guess it is something simple that I have missed. All help is appreciated. Thank you all for all help. It is now solved but unfortunately I am not sure what the problem was. Maybe it just took some time for the switches to get the configuration. Anyhow, now it works. Is this a brand new Meraki Switch? Yes, it is brand new. That is what I am trying to do with the uplink port. The status page in the Dashboard telling me this: "Has never connected to the Meraki cloud".

This looks an awful lot like the settings for an MS switchport. If your switch cannot reach the dashboard then setting these values in the dashboard is not going to help you yet.

Kind of a big deal.So you can easily manage all of your switches and get physical redundancy in the deployments that need it. Meraki Switches have multiple options to best fit your network deployment. Only a single uplink is required to provide connectivity to the stack once all stacking cables are installed. A step-by-step guide for configuring a physical switch stack can be found in the section of this article, Configuring a Physical Switch Stack.
Unless specifically noted, only like-models, regardless of port density, can be stacked. For full information about stacking cable compatibility, available options, and product IDs, see the Stacking Cables section of the SFP and Stacking Accessories datasheet. Only like-models can be stacked.
The MS and MS series are also cross-compatible with physical stacking. Flexible stacking is available on MS and MS switches which do not have dedicated stacking ports; any port on these switches can be configured as a stack port.
This helps ensure each switch is running the same firmware build. Each stack member will show the same management IP address on the dashboard as there is only one control plane running on the master.
Based on the number of the members in a stack and ports being used boot time can vary. Before adding the new member to an existing stack make sure the total number of VLANs is limited to Dashboard will not allow the new member to be added to the stack and will show the following error:. Power off the switch and physically stack the new switch to the existing stack in a ring fashion.
On the MS and MS series switches you have the flexibility to use any of the front ports as either ethernet default or stacking. This option is available under the port configuration and can be easily modified by just selecting enable from the dropdown.
Once this configuration is made and the switches have downloaded the new configuration it's recommended to follow a similar ring topology as mentioned above for the overall port cabling.
Ports configured as stack ports will show up with a new symbol on the nodes status page to indicate that it's configured for stacking. The Switch Stacks Page gives you quick access to all of the configured stacks in the network as well as provides easy configuration options for new Stacks that are being deployed.
Clicking on "Add a stack" or when there is a detected stack you'll be able to easily configure a new physical stack. In order to check the stack status visually simply click any row on the Stacks List. This will take you to the Overview of the stack selected. From here you can easily get a feel for connected ports and which switches are contained in the stack. We've included the capability to blink the LEDs on switches in the stack to easily indicate which switch it is for anyone who's on site looking at the stack.
Failing to do so can prevent the switch from stacking successfully. A flashing white or green LED on the status light on the switch indicates that a firmware upgrade is in progress. Click the checkbox next to the new switch and click the Bind to profile button.
Provide the new switch a physical uplink connection and then power it on. The new switch needs to be brought online as a standalone device, not yet added to the stack so that it can update its firmware. Confirm via the connectivity graph or Support that the switch has upgraded its firmware.
In the Search switches… field, filter by the name of the old switch and select the below column options. Once complete, navigate back to the template profile details page from Step 4 and ensure that the local overrides between the old and new switch match. After confirming that the new switch has upgraded its firmware as mentioned in Step 3, power down the new switch.
